| Great Zimbabwe Ruins
The significance of this, the largest ancient monument south of the Sahara, is testament to the advanced culture of its original African builders. Towering stone buildings remain to tell the story of a city of shona- speaking people who lived her between the 12th and 15th centuries. Zimbabwes national emblem, is a representation of the beautifully carved soapstone fish-eagle that now was dicovered here, in the ruins. Today, the sculpture has pride of place at this site museum. |
